Gamal Abdel Nasser
Egyptian military officer and politician (1918–1970) who led the 1952 revolution that overthrew the monarchy, nationalized the Suez Canal, and became the most charismatic figure in Arab nationalism. His pan-Arab ideology inspired a generation of nationalist movements across the Middle East.
