Giuseppe Garibaldi
Italian general and nationalist leader (1807–1882) whose military campaigns were central to the Risorgimento and the unification of Italy. His "Expedition of the Thousand" in 1860, which conquered Sicily and Naples, is considered the decisive military act of Italian unification.
