Karl Marx
German philosopher and political economist (1818–1883) whose works — including The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867) — provided the theoretical foundation for socialism and communism. His analysis of capitalism's class contradictions influenced every major left-wing political movement of the 20th century.
