Simón Bolívar
Venezuelan military and political leader (1783–1830) who led independence movements across South America, liberating present-day Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia from Spanish rule. His vision of a united Gran Colombia ultimately collapsed under regional rivalries, and he died in exile.
